1st Turkish Highline Carnival
... highliners from all over the world in Geyikbayiri
Here we are in Geyikbayiri, Turkey, 7-13 February 2013 for the first Turkish Highline Carnival in the country! Over ten nations are represented amongst the "artists" making this event happen and the turkish stand strong for being so unfamiliar to the sport.
A total of 15 lines from 10 to 100 meters were established,11 of which were stretched accross the top of the grey limestone and the orange and red tuffa walls of Geyikbayiri.

das schwert des damokles
harald bergers erstbegehung im gasteinertal und warum der eisfall diesen namen mehr als verdient
der winter bäumt sich gerade nochmal auf. das letzte mal in diesem frühjar? wohl kaum.
trotzdem starten wir mit harald berger´s erzählung über seine erstbegehung eines freischwebenden wasserfalls im gasteinertal langsam aber sicher den ausklang der heurigen aufregenden eiskletter-saison.

Nachdem Peter und ich im "Supervisor" an 3 osteuropäschen Seilschaften vorbei seilten, geht mir ein Gedanke durch den Kopf, eine Linie die ich schon seit 4 Jahren immer wieder besucht habe, aber jedes Mal entweder zu früh oder schon zu spät dran war.
Als wir aus dem Auto das Objekt meiner Begierde unter die Lupe nahmen, sagte Peter zu mir: Es wundere ihn, dass diese Linie noch nie versucht wurde. Mich eher nicht. Bis Dato habe ich diesen mächtigen über 30m langen, freihängenden Eiszapfen noch nie in so einem guten Zustand gesehen.

important information concerning via ferrata sets using „rope friction technology" 2013
an overview
Due to a weakening of the rope material caused by aging all AustriAlpin Via Ferrata Sets using rope-friction technology as absorbing system (brake made of metal) MUST NOT be used any further.
Production of the affected sets already stopped in 2006 respectively 2007.
AustriAlpin is constantly refining their products and has been using textile shock absorbers in all their via ferrata sets ever since.
AustriAlpin is willing to cooperate with users. for further information on procedures follow the link to "arrangements".

Free Solo all the way through the Cerro Torre Westface
Markus Pucher climbs his masterpiece
Patagonia has become markus´second home. being dogged by bad luck concerning weather conditions during past expeditions he has made it to the top of cerro torre twice in the last two seasons. on the 14th of january he was climbing the ferrari/ragni route all by himself, respectively FREE SOLO.
he did not plan that. on the day before their planned ascend his parnter felt sick and had to stay in the camp. but markus felt great and strong. so he started this adventure all by himself:
"Than, on monday january 14th at 5:15 in the morning I reach the top of Cerro Torre. the sun is slowly rising, a strong wind is blowin in my face and I am perfectly happy and satisfied. I did it, I was able to climb this fascinating mountain free solo. so I stand there, calm and devotional for a couple of minutes and thank the Cerro Torre before I start my descend."

Benedikt Purner and Albert Leichtfried in "Senza Piombo"
more than likely the first "clean" M10 in the world
Establishing a new M10 isn’t an everyday occurrence. And it certainly isn’t an everyday occurrence that M10’s are first ascended in a clean style, i.e. without pegs and bolts and using only nuts and friends to protect the pitches and belays. We’re obviously talking about Senza Piombo, the beautiful and difficult new route first climbed by Austrialpin athlete Benedikt Purner and Albert Leichtfried, who have made a step forward with this new climb. Unsurprisingly the route is located in Vallunga, in the heart of the Dolomites which historically has been an important testing ground where to experiment with and raise the bar of alpinism and climbing.

Gleistein Ropes is recalling the Triple Safety Loop consisting of 3 dyneema loops of different colors (article nr. ZS00S) from the market.The item recently passed all certification tests. In one instance for an as yet unknown reason, the securing splice opened unexpectedly during use and fortunately did not result in personal injury. as well published on the website of the ÖBRD Tirol

PRECAUTIONARY RECALL
Austrialpin is recalling Via Ferrata Sets COLT and HYDRA (article nr. AS90C and AS93C) as a precautionary measure from the market.
In the course of endurance testing we found out that, in certain cases and after increased use, the elasticated webbing of the stretch arms may no longer meet the relevant safety standards.
If you own a Colt or Hydra Set as detailed above we ask you to
• immediately stop using it
• and send it back to AustriAlpin directly please
further procedures: We will subject each returned Via Ferrata Set a safety inspection, replace the webbing branches and return the set to you as soon as possible.
Information required: To be able to ensure a trouble-free procedure please write your address, e-mail and telephone number on the shipment.
Postage costs will be reimbursed. You have two possibilities to choose from:
1. you provide us with your account information and the amount of postage costs
2. once we are returning the sets you get an austrialpin hms karabiner for free

Miyar Valley - India
last part of gerhard´s and ines´ expedition-trilogy
Spending our time in base camp, Ines and I discuss a couple of options. The sound of the rain, that falls on our tent, seems to become a mantra, an endless repetition of the question „What are we going to do?“, „What are we going to do?“....
We spent a lot of time looking at the expedition reports we brought with us, and studying the pictures we have taken. With the days passing by, all of it´s own, a clear plan emerges in our thoughts, as well as in our hearts.

Miyar Valley - India
part 2 of Gerhard Schaar´s India Expedition
Already on the first day we embark base camp to climb a new line on the 4800m high Torro Peak. The south side has a nice 350 m wall, and we consider it to be perfect for getting used to the rock and the climbing here, and to further acclimatize.
Leaving base camp at 5 a.m., we still feel a little bit sleepy. But when we have to cross the rumbling stream barefeet, that flows down from the Chhudong Valley, we are soon hyper awake due to the ice cold water that make our feet numb after a few steps.

since the 1990s I come back to luesens whenever possible to satisfy my desire for adventure. it's the fabulous rock cill covered with rags of frozen water that attracts my attention again and again. andi orglers classic routes "easy afternoon" and "haengende gaerten" are still the show pieces, but if you have a closer look you find plenty of new, extreme lines to play with.

a stunning iceclimbing movie about austrialpin-teamclimber berger harry
this movie is an impressive documentary about the free solo of a 300m high icefall named "the supervisor". this extremely difficult and dangerous waterfall in the gasteiner valley can only be climbed at special conditions.
dieser film erzählt in eindrucksvoller weise von der free solo begehung des 300 meter hohen, zu eis erstarrten wasserfalls "Supervisor". der extrem schwierige und gefährliche wasserfall im gasteinertal kann nur ganz selten im winter geklettert werden. große lawinengefahr und schwer einschätzbare eisverhältnisse lassen diesen zu einem der gefährlichsten und schwierigsten wasserfälle der welt werden.

Gerhard and Ines discover India
Successful expedition in the fascinating Miyar Valley - part 1 - the journey begins
From August until the end of September my girlfriend Ines and I undertook an expedition to the Miyar Valley in Northern India (Himachal Pradesh). Thanks to good weather we succeeded in seven ascents, three of them being first ascents of unclimbed peaks up to 5.900m, two new routes and two first repetitions.
We want to dedicate the highest peak we have climbed, to a great climbing pioneer, and name it “Kurt Albert Peak”.
The expedition has been supported by the „Millet Expedition Project”, “Austrialpin” and “www.rockstore.at”.
